Umdoni or Greater Scottburgh Cultural Attractions
Green Point LighthouseAt Clansthal, between Scottburgh and Umkomaas it is also known as the Clansthal Lighthouse. It serves to warn shipping of the presence of the Aliwal Shoal four kms offshore. The building is a national monument.

HighflatsFurther inland from
Umzinto, the small town of
Highflats is a convenient
base for exploring cultural
sites relating to the truly
ancient San people.
Caves, rock paintings, religious
shrines and ceremonial
sites bear witness to
this fascinating culture’s
deep understanding of the
relationship between man
and nature.
The San’s mystical communion
with the eland has
imprinted much of the
region with artistic homage
to this regal antelope.
The San worshiped the
Eland and many of the
rock paintings feature
these large antelope, usually
drawn using a red pigment
made from ochre or
ferric oxide ground down
to a fine powder. Park RynieA Small whaling station was developed here in the 1900's. Its remains are sometimes still visible, depending on the beach sand. The town was named after Mrs Rynie Hoffman. Sezela River, South CoastSezela River mouth. A great crocodile known as Sezela was killed here in 1828 on Shaka's orders. For years it had terrorised a local tribe, the Malangeni.
Umdoni Park, South CoastPennington. The sugar magnate, Sir Frank Reynolds, built a
seaside residence here for the South African Prime
